the first separatist feminist march, for a non-sexist education and sexism
Where are the Swedish correspondents, in Latin America?
Yesterday May 16, 2018, 170 thousand students of the high schools and
universities, went out onto the streets, to demand a non-sexist
education. More than 40 feminist student assemblies called for the
first separatist feminist march, for a non-sexist education: "enough
of the abuse that we have suffered for decades, suffered by my
mother, my grandmother and all the women in my family," explain
the girls. The order was clear, the men could only accompany, but not
take any role, and they did so, the protagonists were the women. They
demand a stop to the sexist phrases and sexual harassment from male
students and professors, as well as denouncing sexist education and
institutions governed by and for men and their privileges. They also
demand concrete laws that free educational spaces from sexism. The
police repressed the protests with female police, and the role of
demonstration guards were women with bare upper bodies and red
"hoods." When the demonstration passed in front of the
Palacio de la Moneda, the right wing politicians, that are currently
in office, could not believe their eyes seeing thousands of women
taking the streets. The students occupied the campuses of the
University of Chile and Universidad Catolica and have denounced with
name and surname several professors from prestigious universities in
Chile.
